Today’s Just One Thing is a Children’s Day special.

I usually turn my nose up at children (but ogle at babies’ chubby cheeks on YouTube), and can’t fathom why people would want to have kids in a world like this. Perhaps, deep inside, I’m jealous of the optimism they must still nurture, even when everything around us seems like a raging dumpster fire.

Children are a manifestation of our collective civilizational hope for a Future.

Artist Olafur Eliasson designed an app called Earth Speaker, which allowed thousands of children across the globe to record messages about the well-being of planet earth. 

If you’re a cynic like me, even 5 minutes on Earth Speaker can put a smile on your face and a flicker of hope in your heart.
