#148 I hate the new Kanye, the bad mood Kanye / The always rude Kanye, in the news Kanye.
When celebrities fall from grace, it is often regular folk, often fans of the offending celeb, who take it upon themselves to restore faith in humanity. Fans of Kanye West transformed his subreddit into a page educating people about the Holocaust; a tattoo removal studio in the UK offered to remove Kanye West tattoos for free.
Who’d have thought a “proud non-reader” would pose such a threat to the world’s intelligence? I wonder how many young readers who haven’t even reached the chapter on WWII in history class googled Hitler after Kanye’s antics.
In recent years, books about Hitler have been bestsellers at local bookstores, like our local Crossword in Bhopal. In fact, Mein Kampf is a best seller in India. I guess ignorance really is bliss, huh?
History is not just a boring subject reserved for school textbooks – it’s a fascinating window into the human experience. As they say, “those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” So, in the spirit of avoiding repeating the mistakes of the past, I’m compiling some resources to help refresh or gain knowledge about the history of discrimination. There’s so much to know, understand, and learn. Let’s start with anti-Semitism.
I know the Holocaust is the first thing that comes to mind when discussing anti-Semitism, but before we dive into that tragic chapter of history, let’s quickly refresh our memory on what fascism is, its tactics, and how Hitler and his cronies managed to pull off such a massive pogrom against the Jews.
If you’re wondering why you should care about this “foreign affair,” it’s because the current political climate on our shores is starting to resemble 1930s Germany. From Savarkar being hailed as Veer to the increased use of the word pogrom in Indian news reports, the signs are all there.
If this brief stroll down memory lane helped, let me know – I’d love to continue the conversation. Write back and tell me what you think.
Yours,
Nikita
Don’t make mistake twice (unless they’re hot). Just One Thing is smokin’ so tell the world about us. Rinse and repeat.
