#161 To all the things we learned this year
This week, we’re taking you back to all our favourite things from the year gone by. I, personally wanted to express my gratitude by looking back at all I have learned this year from my fellow writers.
Did I ever tell you my mum sold my comics collection to the raddiwala when I was away for master’s? She did. In mum’s defence, she thought storybooks with pictures are for kids, and she could think of so many uses for the space she’s just rescued. Well, thanks to Thing, everything online is safe from mum’s cleaning wrath at least (at least for now).
I couldn’t visit my bestie in the city of joy during Durga Pujo last year. The reasons were numerous and not being able to go broke my heart. But then Proiti pointed us to virtual tours of pujo pandalsand they sure eased my FOMO a wee bit. Perhaps, next year I’ll be able to visit my friend and wear the iconic red-white saree for Sindur Khela.
I love playing pretend. And now thanks to Ria, I can be L’artiste even outside my mind. These exciting AIs and I will spend all my me-time well into the indefinite future. Time well spent, I say.
The fourth is a rabbit hole, yay! A place for me to wander off and disappear into for hours at a time. And, I think by now, y’all know there is nothing I love more. The BBC archives Karinaintroduced us to are a unique collection of life and events across the UK since the 1940s. As for me, I am stuck in the cinema section. Still.
Apart from giving me enough privacy scares to make me stop using Google and WhatApp altogether, Dolly also introduced me to Michael Harriot. He also indulged this fiction junkie with climate fiction – what could be better than attaching a cause to fiction. The stories make for spectacular reading with their diverse points of view.
So, these were the things that made my 2022 and broadened my horizons too. Which are yours, and why haven’t you shared them with your friends already? Go on, be the light!
Yours,
