Yay! It’s Wednesday, and you are halfway through the week. Can you hear Fri’yay evening calling your name? Well, I can, and it’s the voice of a bottle of fine wine, its siren song getting louder with each passing minute. So much so that it is the only thing I could think of for today’s newsletter.
According to aficionados, one of wine’s most fascinating facets (apart from helping Geminis like me bring out their second personality) is that there’s always something new to learn. And why wouldn’t there be? With over a thousand grape varieties worldwide and 70 wine-producing countries, there is plenty to keep a wine connoisseur engaged for life. (Plus showing off one’s knowledge comes with the wine drinking, I’m told.)
So, where does a fledgeling wine aficionado go looking? You start with YouTube, of course, and down the rabbit hole you go. But, as I found the answers to my questions, it only worked to fuel my curiosity. I was hooked! I listened to stories of the wine-obsessed and chased them down with interviews of the famous. I learnt what it is like for people of colour within the wine industry. I’ve immersed myself in cultural and regional stories, unravelling the mysteries of this supposedly ‘posh’ drink.
John Keats said, give me books, French wine, fruit, fine weather and a little music played out of doors by somebody I do not know. The monsoons are at my doorstep, and the weekend is just a couple of days away. What is this if not paradise for introverts?
Yours,
Nikita
