And just like that, it's the first of April, which means it is April Fools' Day and also 'I-give-myself-permission-to-start-using-the-AC-indiscriminately-because-April-means-summer-is-here' Day, but that's more of a personal occasion.

April Fools' the universal occasion, began hundreds of years ago (its origins are disputed) and continues even now, despite the fact that life on earth has turned into one big April Fools' joke anyway. I guess every generation thought that, but us, right here? We've really brought the house down. Never has the apocalypse been a more real possibility than now.

Before it all goes to the dogs, let's take a trip down memory lane to an archive of April Fool's hoaxes throughout history. 

From Loch Ness Monster sightings and "good health bacteria" to "bacon-scented cat litter" and genetically engineered advertising butterflies, April Fool's pranks must be credited for their incredible width and depth.
