Earlier this week, Dolly, Thing, and I played hooky from our morning schedule to watch Guardians of the Galaxy 3 on the big screen. I'd been told the movie had a cover of Radiohead's Creep but refused to listen to it or watch the trailer. I've hated every single cover of Creep that's ever come out - subpar renditions have a way of dismantling cherished memories - and I didn't expect this one to be any different.

But listening to the song play during the opening credits in that almost empty theatre took my breath away. This was no cover but Thom Yorke's acoustic rendition that transforms this quintessential slacker anthem of my teen years into something ethereal and melancholic. What a magnificent way to set the tone for Rocket's opus with heartache, self-loathing and the voice of a fallen angel.

If you're wondering if I've decided to do a Niki and write about the movies, nope, not happening. My thing today is all about covers.

You know what I'm talking about - cover versions of your favourite music can have you feeling allllll the love

or uncontrollable rage. Then there are some really weird ones that leave you quite numb.

You can find them all at SecondHandSongs - easily the largest and most accurate database of cover songs. It tells you who performed the original version of a particular song or who else around the world covered it. So go find your favourites.

The site does not include the soul-crushing adaptions or childhood-destroying plagiarised versions that Bollywood dishes out from time to time. I have a Dolly for those.

Muchest love,

K

Secondhand songs are always going to have people feeling the feels. Which one gets your goat? Tell me in the comments.
