One of my biggest regrets until this point is not making enough effort to learn some philosophy during my undergrad and postgrad years studying English Literature.
Let's be honest: I hardly made any effort at all. I would be found sitting towards the back of the classroom, doodling burgers and writing Bengali soap operas with my friend on the last pages of my notebook (don't ask).
Before exams, I would gobble up notes shared by generous classmates and spew hot garbage on my papers for the professors to sift through.
I wish I had paid attention in those classes. (Some of them, at least). My paternal grandfather was a professor of Philosophy at the University of Calcutta. I'm sure he's up there shaking his head in disappointment at his slacker of a grand-daughter.
To redeem myself, I've begun to browse Philosophy Bro, a Tumblr account turned website that distils major philosophical theories and ideas into bro-speak. Its no-bullshit approach is perfect for dummies like me.
I'm both sad and happy to say that I finally (sort of) understand what Descartes was on about.Â
Give it a shot if you, too, were writing soap operas (or sitcoms, murder mysteries, or political satire) in class when you should have been listening to your professor.Â
