Proiti wrote about pleasant surprises thrown up by the YouTube algorithm yesterday. That reminded me, it's been over five years since GoGo Penguin surfaced for me, and I haven't even told you about them yet!
GoGo Penguin is a British jazz and electronic music band from England, formed in 2012. The band consists of three members: Chris Illingworth (piano), Nick Blacka (double bass), and Rob Turner (drums). Their music is characterized by a unique blend of jazz, electronica, and minimalist influences, resulting in a distinctive and contemporary sound.
Really though, you need to listen to them to truly experience their virtuoso playing, interspersed with rich melodies and complex rhythmic patterns, blending classical music, rock, and trip-hop, and a whole lot more into their own unique "acoustic electronica".
GoGo Penguin is like the musical equivalent of a joyful, finger-snapping, toe-tapping, jazz-loving penguin sliding on a giant iceberg, leaving listeners with a smile on their faces and a newfound appreciation for genre-blending music.
And since this post began with a reference to the YouTube algorithm, I leave you with GoGo Penguin's YouTube channel and more specifically, their awesome new video from their latest album.
Enjoy.
