Unless you've been living under a rock or hibernating in a cave, you must have heard the buzz about "manifesting" by now. It's all the rage at the moment, even though the concept has been around for ages. Manifesting is a practice that involves imagining your dreams become reality.
As with every other human practice, there are multiple processes people use, but they're all centred on the core belief that if you really truly want something from your heart - it could be a new house or car, a dream job, your ideal partner etc.- the universe is going to make it happen for you. All you have to do is visualise living that reality and giving thanks for it as if you're already there.
This probably sounds like a load of crap to many of you. I wouldn't blame you - after all, the universe seldom makes such public displays of benevolence. But some psychologists say that this practice can actually make people take proactive action to fulfil their goals by developing a growth mindset.
I've never actively tried manifesting anything, but something that happened in the last few months kind of makes me want to believe: I'd been badgering my friend and her partner to adopt a cat for a long time. They would smile and nod like the indulgent friends they are but take no action. Fast-forward to August last year. They returned home from a short trip to find a cat had given birth to a litter of four.
Long story short, they now have a cat (only one kitten survived, and the mother went off on her next adventure), just like I wanted. This sequence of events made me feel like I have magical powers.
Scratch that, I DO have magical powers. And now that the cat's out of the bag, I can go shout it from the rooftops.
As for you muggles, visit today's thing, Conjuring Credits, a website that records the origins of famous magic tricks.Â
It won't let you in on my secrets, but it's still good fun.
