It's not hard to get my blood boiling, but toxic positivity has the dubious honour of ranking quite high in one of my internal hate lists. Maybe the one that contains things like virtue signalling, gaslighting, and saying, 'I'm not like other girls'. There are many such lists. Possibly a side effect of growing up with Proiti, who has a truly impressive array of pet peeves.
I'm not a fan of going into denial, and that's what toxic positivity preaches IMO. A lack of acknowledgement of reality. But hey, maybe sometimes things are not okay, and that's perfectly normal, too. Life is not always sunshine and daisies, and thank god for that. How else would we ever get to experience petrichor?
Coming across Disappointing Affirmations felt like a revelation. Here is some person on the internet who gets it.  Â
Some days, you want a friend to sit with you, listen to your problems, and tell you that everything will be okay. On other days, you need a stranger on the internet to remind you to chill the fuck out, it doesn't matter. That's the role Disappointing Affirmations plays in my life.Â
Hope it does the same for you!
