There's a famous line written by German playwright Bertolt Brecht:
"In the dark times/Will there be singing?
There will be singing/Of the dark times."
But what about laughter during the dark times? That's a slightly bigger ask IMO.
Palestininian-American comic Sammy Obeid seems to have got the hang of it, though.
There are multiple ways to get your point across, and comedy is a powerful one, even if the topic is heavy and serious and makes you despair at the state of the world.
I'm not overly fond of many stand-up comedians, but I do love it when it's done right (Alok Menon and Varun Grover proved to be recent examples).Â
