We are all guilty of endless scrolling - whether it be at lunch, post work, or even while procrastinating getting our day started. We’ve spun around viral reel trends, social media envy, FOMO, and depressing news (a lot of it lately) without realizing the larger effects it has on our minds.Â
While some of us are self-aware enough to know that we’re doom-scrolling, we have to face that social media addiction is here to stay. The anxiety and depression it causes, need not be.Â
A simple solution I’ve adopted is to follow pages that make me feel happy and positive, while still scrolling, if I must. I’m going to call it sunshine scrolling.Â
I recently stumbled upon the Meet-cutes NYC page and it became an instant favourite, easily sneaking a smile onto my face with every short clip. The Oxford dictionary describes a “meet cute" as a cute, charming, or amusing first encounter between romantic partners and the videos of @meetcutesnyc show us that and more. I mean look at this!
I’d be cycling through endless photos and videos of food, clothes and fitness routines and suddenly find myself stopping to witness a heartwarming love story straight from the streets of New York City. As a die-hard romantic, listening to short clips of adorable couples and their serendipitous encounters truly makes my day.Â
I love listening to how they met, got together but most importantly, how they stayed together - in an age where speed dating and ‘situationships’ are the new norms, working on keeping the relationship rock-solid through many hardships and years worth of work hits different. It reinforces my belief that true love can make everything more.
We live in a hopeless (social media) world in dire need of love, and here’s a page that will make you feel a little fuzzy and a lot more hopeful.
