There's a lot of talk on mindfulness these days. Mindful living, mindful thinking, and mindful being. I understand the value, I truly do. We are capable of doing a staggering amount of damage when we go about our lives unaware of our impact on the world.
But at the end of a long day, sometimes, all I crave is blissful mindlessness.
It's why Patatap has become my new(est) obsession. It's a rad animation and sound kit by programmer Jono Brandel and electronic duo Lullaton.Â
As a child, I'd gleefully pound random keys on the synthesizer despite my dodgy musical skills. So you bet a website to make music with Kandinsky-esque graphics has me squealing with joy.
Just look at this. I dare you to tell me it isn't the culmination of human ingenuity.
Despite my inclination towards cheap thrills, I've never been into Fruit Ninja or Candy Crush. But I guess they stimulate the same part of the brain that Patatap seems to occupy though. Sketchy science aside, today's Thing gives me my hit of happy chemicals as I churn out living room masterpieces. Carpal tunnel be damned.
So run forth, my friend. Tap away. In the immortal words of Taylor Swift, to your own sick beat!
