In moments of deep disillusionment, I often wonder if change is even a real possibility.
We've "abolished" the caste system, but as Niki pointed out last week, deep, systemic divides separate us. We've done away with the monarchy (mostly), but power still rests with a handful of individuals.
IMO, just looking ahead is not the key. Reflections, knowing about the past, and maybe, just maybe, learning from it is where it's at.
As someone very nicely put it, history is an explanation for the present.
And we need to find explanations stat because the present no longer looks like a gift.
We've been no strangers to sharing some weird or cool or morbid history here at Just One Thing. And today I throw into the ring, Empire - a podcast that covers the history of, you guessed it, empire and how it impacts today's world, featuring William Dalrymple and Anita Anand.
It's a hell of a lesson on perspective, how far back this shit goes. And though it doesn't provide neat answers, it certainly provides some much-needed insight.
