People always ask me if I blog about my travels. I don't. (Though I guess this is kind of it.)Â
How do I capture in words the sights and sounds that I encounter? The complexities of the people I meet? Is it possible to communicate to you the smells that my nose picks up or the cold that always seems colder than the number on my weather app indicates?Â
Words always fall short of the multisensory, visceral experience that travelling to a new place is.
I'm in Dharamkot as I write this, and in the few days I've been here, good (and some bad) music has already been a recurring experience.Â
Fingers almost numb from the cold. A quiet, attentive audience on a bare rooftop. The Himalayas, with a crescent in the sky, for a backdrop. And a lone guitarist in the foreground. That's what last evening was like for me.Â
These words are nowhere close to the real deal; neither is this picture. But add to them this music, and maybe you'll get a teeny bit closer to catching a glimpse of my few pahadi evenings so far.
Maybe you'll be transported here too. Maybe it'll make my solo trip a little less solo.
Does a soundscape capture your experience of a place better than words do? Tell me..
