Most video games and game characters are designed by men. And coded by them. As a result, most women and non-binary characters look... disproportionate... the tamest word I can think of in the circumstances.
Just take a look at some of Fortnite's women.
I personally love EAT BREATHE LIVE for video games. I'm 15. Duh. So it's utterly disappointing to see the same wildly unreal proportions on women, girls and NBs. So when I found out about Girls Who Code Girls, I was beyond thrilled, especially because they said my character could change the future of gaming. Like most people, I often fantasize about changing the world without ever getting off my bum.
The interactive experience on this website allows you to choose your character's mood, vibe, pronouns and even game name. Cyber Warlock is a personal fave. I'm Cyber Warlock.
You can also look through a gallery of characters designed by other people. I made a bunch but didn't save any because I'm clever that way. So here's one Karina made (she's so predictable, no? Fierce Boss, seriously?)
So go forth and code the world you wish to see. And maybe share Just One Thing while you're at it.Â
