Hello, Friend,
What were you doing in 2007?
Me, I was making a delicious baby.
And devouring the internet; it wasn't the abscess on Satan's butthole it is now.
2007 is when I stumbled upon Very Short List, an email that pointed readers to a single nugget of culture every single day. It quickly became a thing I looked forward to reading. Until Trump's evil son-in-law acquired it, that is, and destroyed it in small increments. By the time it met its unfortunate end, I'd long stopped reading.
I'd always wanted to start a VSL of my own or a version of it - bring back my 3 minutes of email joy and share it with other people. Rewind to a year and some, and after years and years of 'somedays', the stars aligned in the most unexpected of ways. A chance rant about evil Jared killing my joy intersected unexpectedly with Niki's wish for her 30th; et voila, Just One Thing.
At its heart, Just One Thing is about writing for joy. Not for clients or deadlines but for the sheer pleasure of sharing something weβve discovered.
Itβs our playground, where each of us, with our diverse interests and unique viewpoints, brings very varied perspectives to the party.
Itβs our collective love letter to curiosity.Β
Itβs about pointing you to the little things Google would never show you.
In a way, it's our own Marie Kondo for the soul, sifting through the debris of the digital world to present you with things that truly matter, things that spark joy.Β
So, to you, our dear readers, who join us every day on this journey of discovery and delight, we say:
we made this thing just for you.
Oh man, I want to hang out with you all.
