Everybody writes. Greta Gerwig's Ken complains that his job is "just beach." For a large percentage of us working with laptops, our jobs have the tendency to become "just email."

And I'm a writer, I love the craft to bits, but even I admit that tapping away at the keyboard can get monotonous. Music helps. Our curator, Dolly, recommends getting into a flow state.ย

But for me, when all else fails ...Enter Typatone.

Thanks for reading Just One Thing! Subscribe to receive every post.

From the makers behind Patatap and Curaturae, Typatone encourages you to "make music while you write." Each letter corresponds to a musical note that plays as you type. You can then play it back to hear the entire composition together.

It's cool to see what notes make up the letters of my name. And I love the sound my favourite person's name or my favourite poem makes (Me? Biased? Never!).ย

What I love more? Writing the most passive-aggressive emails with tinkling piano notes in the background. There are also different sets of notes depending on mood, including an ominous one, which is perfect for when I'm writing to a particularly tricky individual.ย

Don't quote me on this, but it's definitely some form of therapy.

So next time you have a dreary email to write, why not hear what they sound like?
